Abstract: | The dramatic increase in end-user developed systems (vs. developed by MIS departments) and its influence on the development methodologies is examined. Currently, MIS professionals are required to develop only those systems that are too large and too complex. Three types of methodology are presented: the traditional, the prototyping and the incremental one. Factors affecting the choice of methodology (project duration, user requirements and project impact) are discussed. The process of selecting development methdology is analyzed. It is suggested that, because of differences among analysts, judicious assignment of them to projects can improve development outcomes. |
