| Abstract: | Four generations of information technology are overviewed: the accounting era with its IS dominance the operational era with the line involvement; the information era with the individual decision support; the wired society with line leadership in strategic systems. Line leadership's role in forming conception and managing implementation is highlighted. The impact of information technology on corporate strategy is discussed. Major stages of applications development are described. The growing role of information technology manager is demonstrated. Significant new responsibilities of line management are overviewed. |
