Abstract:An investigation of the validity of an assessment centre /AC/ used to select policemen and policewomen for an accelerated promotion scheme, using 2 samples of 223 and 157 applicants followed up over 1-19 years, and three types of criteria: training grades, rank attained and supervisory ratings, and factor analysis. Home Office ACs. Previous research. Format of extended interviews. Subjective assessment procedures. The method and results. Factor analysis of supervisory ratings. Correlations of extended interview measures with criteria, predictive validity, validity of peer nominations, invalidity of pencil-and-paper tests. Efficiency and conclusions on validity. Three Tables illustrate the study.
