Abstract:Educational theory has developed in a fragmented fashion, with perspectives on structure and organization of schooling and developed in isolation from theories of cognition and learning. these two strands of thought should be integrated. Three major views of the role of schooling - the functionalist, Marxist, and cultural Marxist -are analysed first. Then constructivist framework is reviewed.Some of the implications of a learning oriented approach to educational theory are outlined finally.
