Abstract: | The desire for synergy in mergers and acquisitions has been widely acknowledged in the management literature, and its presence has become a requisite in most acquisition analyses. A goal-programming model is presented as an aid in selecting companies in the second stage of the strategic acquisition-analysis process. A detailed analysis of how these acquisition-factor objective functions could be mathematically structured into a goal-programming model is also provided. The results of the application reveal that the goal-programming model can generate a solution consistent with currently used acquisition methods, but with a reduction in time and effort of management to achieve that same solution. |
