Abstract: | Decisions concerning the selection of computer systems might be appropriate applications of the analytical hierarchy process. Structuring as a hierarchy is a useful aid to understanding problems. Another advantage to using the method is that it provides documentation about how and why a particular decision is taken. Weighing of attributes and scoring of options lead to useful data about people's concerns and preferences. Some difficulties arise, however, when comparing the importance of a tangible factor with intangible attributes. Also, it is difficult to interpret the options' final scores because of their unknown statistical significance, uncertainty about how decision-makers use the scales and because the process does not yield a unique solution. |
