Abstract:The official explanation of setting up an Audio-Visual Media Institute in Athens is that Greece will host the Olympic Games centenary in 1996, which needs modern media. Independent broadcasters fear it will mean a new form of state control. Greece is the only EEC member reluctant to liberalize the airwaves. In early August, however, a new private station, Grammi went on the air. It will be a youth oriented music and sports station like Antenna 971 set up 4 months ago.
