| Abstract: | Manufacturers and their suppliers in the USA are developing new styles of relating to one another - styles characterized by team decision making, longer-term contracts, higher levels of outsourcing, and increased interdependence. The general impression among buyers and suppliers is that manufacturing firms are accruing significant advantages, while their suppliers face significant disadvantages. A deeper analysis of advantages and disadvantages on both sides shows that gains and losses are equally distributed between the parties. A detailed analysis of risks is also provided. |
