Abstract:Flexible compensation or "cafeteria benefits" are widely accepted in the US but not in the UK. This article looks into the reasons behind this. This system allows employees to have a free choice of elements that they want in their compensation package. Some of the factors that work against flexible compensation in the UK are: ignorance, tax complexity, administration and communications difficulties, etc. The article suggests that this tendency is about to change.
