| Abstract: | The authors study the causes of failures among small business firms, by drawing on the information contained in the reports of the official receiver. They conclude that government initiatives to provide subsidised consultancy in marketing and planning should be extended to include advice on operational management. Closer attention should also be paid to under- capitalisation as a cause of failure. |
