Abstract: | Express delivery is quite common today, but there is no distinct express industry as such. It is, rather part of a bigger "parcels" industry. The companies which have succeeded are those which have managed to sub-divide the service they are offering and package it as a range of discrete products. The simplest way of "packaging" has been by time slots. Operators are now pitching for very specialized product markets. E.g. TNT has everything from a special delivery service for print and marketing materials in the UK. Though speed was once seen as the most important element, it has now been supplanted by reliability. |
