Abstract:The USA market for information systems (IS) appears to be behind other world regions judging from research data. However, the situation is somewhat different seen from some USA corporations. Some figures of the North American economy are shown indicating a high demand for information technology. Companies in America with the highest IS revenues are listed and ranked. Also , the companies that grew most in IS in 1989 are shown. IS sales have risen 17 p.c. since 1987. Companies that lost money are tabulated. Scores of interviews were conducted with top IS managers suggesting that the picture of information technology is far more advantageous than believed.
