Abstract:One must recognize the type of culture when engaging in international business, and then apply the correct principles in dealing with foreign nationals. Some methods are recommended for USA business people to communicate more effectively abroad. Cultures are divided into two polar types, named high- and low-context societies. Knowledge of where a particular culture falls in the high- and low-context spectrum gives business people valuable clues about how to communicate with people from different cultures. These clues have been put in the form of three sets of specific advices for business people to remember when they engage in international communication.
