Abstract:The long-term effects of work redesign are investigated. The focus is on how various kinds of task configurations affect key employee attitudes and behaviours. The purpose was to assess such effects over an extended time period. The results show that task redesign intervention significantly altered employee perceptions in the predicted and desired directions. The altered perceptions remained at their new level for the duration of the study. Attitudes increased quickly but then diminished back to their initial levels. Finally, performance did not increase initially, but did increase significantly by the end of the study period.
