Abstract: | The goal of many companies is becoming lower-cost producers by downsizing. But traditional downsizing strategies often ignore the fact that corporate resources are inefficiently deployed. Here is a six-step approach to realigning, eliminating, and reallocating resources to improve overall operations. Step 1: reorganize around business lines. Step 2: evaluate business line viability. Step 3: restructure remaining business units. Step 4: optimize business unit operations. Step 5: restructure internal suppliers. Step 6: managerial restructuring. |
