Abstract:Managers worry about the source of antitrust holdup for domestic mergers which have also significant international effects. The author has conducted a conceptual framework that aims to predict the antitrust holdup in domestic mergers. The global competitiveness of an industry seems to be the dominant driver regarding the holdup source. Moreover, the institutional conditions are proposed to yield to the predictions customized to the cross-national context for antitrust policy. Data has been gathered form merger policies of 27 antitrust jurisdictions in the period 1992-2000, and it provides support for baseline predictions. The author concludes with generation of prescriptive propositions that provide efficient political strategy implications.
