Abstract: | Companies that do not respect the psychological power of change struggle for years after a restructuring. The lesson is clear: there is no spontaneous recovery. Survey data and examples of downsizing in the USA companies during the past five years are presented. It was found that low morale is common among the restructured firms. A useful framework for managing change is provided. It is represented by a four-pronged approach: assess the change-readiness; communicate effectively maintaining the flow of important information; manage paying sufficient attention to the company culture, executive team development, customer relations, personnel issues; provide training to promote recovery and facilitate success. |
