Abstract: | In its eighty-sixth year, Harley-Davidson, the only USA-based motorcycle manufacturer, is thriving in a fiercely competitive marketplace. Improved manufacturing techniques, i.e. just-in-time inventory management and statistical operator control, and employee involvement have helped to achieve quality parity with Japanese competitors. Financial restructuring and a key acquisition have spurred the company's growth and made it a world-class manufacturer. |
