Abstract: | Evidence of managers changing expectations toward their companies and careers is mounting. Managers no longer feel their companies owe them or can provide long-term employment. This carries implications for a company's succession planning and manager development as well as manager motivation and retention. The managers' feelings are justified in light of the widespread restructuring and downsizing trends of the 80s. Along with a significant number of job eliminations, dismissals and early retirements, organizational designs also have slimmed down. |
