Abstract: | Changes are discussed that have taken place in the structure of collective bargaining, wage systems and job security. Then some institutional developments are analyzed, including greater employee perticipation in decision-making, the new financial roles of unions in corporate restructuring and mergers, union representation in company boards of directors, and union access to company information. It seems likely that a number of institutional changes that have been gaining momentum, especially in larger unionised corporations, will prove to be more permanent. These developments are bound up with the new forms of work organisation and the need to meet intensified world-wide competition. |
