The effects of global competition and restructuring programs on work opportunities are outlined. The position of managers in analyzed. Common decency and welfare of the company demand that management offer help every employee facing job elimination. The responsibility of the company for their workers is emphasized. A successful present outplacement program is discussed. Union support was crucial. A liberal severance pay and benefits package was elaborated. The steps of the program are described in detail. Results are summarized and future prospects outlined.
