Abstract:In recent years, strategic management often had to sit in the back of the bus while organizations embarked on efficiency programs such as reengineering and restructuring. But these three firms found that selecting their strategic direction before reengineering makes the most sense. Each example shows how company leaders focused their organizations first on strategy, and then linked it to the efficiency programs. As a result, each company has enhanced its outlook for long term revenue generation, while gaining short term cost reductions as well.
