Abstract:This article examines the existence of sex discrimination in three Turkish and six British banks and high street financial organizations. The results of questionnaires, interviews and documentary evidence show that equal opportunities by sex were not provided as promised. Members of managerial elites consisting almost only of males formed firm´s view about the ideal worker and promoted only staff considered fully committed to the values of the firm, and this distinction made btw. 'belonging' and 'otherness' was clearly gendered.
