Abstract:New information technologies such as semantic search engines based on ontologies could help researchers (here as: rsrhs.) to link fragments of knowledge generated at research centers from around the world. Using a storyline of four imaginary rsrhs. it is hereby aimed at finding collaborators to develop research findings. Illustrated are two levels of a 4-level architecture for an Internet based knowledge integration (as: I-b-k-i.) and collaboration environment for integrated environmental assessment (as: i-e-a). Computational models are proposed as an effective medium for conveying expert knowledge of various phenomena. This article presents results of research at 2 levels of an I-b-k-i. environment for i-e-a. in industrial ecology. The levels 3 and 4 are presented in articles to come.
