Abstract:This paper aims at providing practitioners of management on how a major grocery retail business may flourish on the Internet, by employing a real estate approach, using a knowledge management (KM) system, namely KnowAsis(tm). Based on a literature review on practices (as: prtcs.) and actual examples of companies' prtcs. using personal interviews and basic empirical analysis of managers located in Pittsburgh, PA., U.S. Giant Eagle's (GE) new knowledge-based system (KBS) utilizes interactive capabilities, trying to standardize valuable knowledge in a properly stored format. Among the benefits of the KBS, data mining and support for the front-end personnel could be especially brought out. The key of successful future development would be attention paid to the scalability of the system and the technologies involved. The primary feature is that the posted content is essentially owned and managed by the particular business area and reviewed on a periodic basis.
