Abstract:In public and private organizations, social and ethical issues in the supply chain are getting more important. Hence, socially responsible purchasing (henceforth as: s-r-p.) practices are introduced. Based on the best-performing organizations, this paper aims to disseminate the knowledge and experiences by developing a model of the s-r-p. process based on the empirical and secondary data. Five elementary steps necessary in the implementation of systematic s-r-p. practices are found: i. developing internal policies, ii. setting purchasing criteria regarding social issues, iii. applying assurance practices, iv. managing supplier relations, and v. building internal capacity.
