Abstract:Strategic discontinuities and disruptions usually call for changes in business models (hereafter as: b-m/s). In the course of time, efficient firms evolve b-m/s. of increasing stability, and therefore rigidity. This contradiction can be made easier to resolve by developing three core meta-capabilities to make an organization more agile: strategic sensitivity, leadership unity and resource fluidity. Based on detailed research of a dozen companies, among others Nokia, easyGroup, HP, SAP and Kone, who were reconceiving their b-m/s., this article reviews the determinants of these capabilities. Proposed is a set of concrete leadership actions enabling the meta-capabilities needed to accelerate the renewal and transformation of b-m/s.
