Abstract:This paper proposes and presents a new approach for modeling the appeal of movie features to market segments through using of appropriate individual-specific data and canonical correlation analysis (herein as: c-c-a). Using demographically detailed movie-attendance data available in Spain, a model is built of how movie features influence the demographic (here as: dem.) composition of audiences. Via a c-c-a., identified are four dimensions beyond the relationships between several movie features and audience demographics. The dimensions represent the strong pairings btw. four moviegoer dem. profiles and four movie-feature profiles. This approach can potentially support in segmentation and affirmative decisions by matching movie features with the most relevant segment-specific preferences.
