Abstract:This article, using a sample of subsidiaries of Spanish multinational companies (MNCs), analyses the effect of cultural context as a moderating variable between high performance work systems (HPWS) and performance. The findings indicate the positive effect of HPWS on company performance but don't show a significant influence of cultural context as a moderating variable. However, specific cultural characteristics of the countries where companies are located seem to increase the positive influence of HPWS.
