Abstract:This article investigates the career trajectories of 48 creative professionals in the British advertising industry. Professionals learn their skills by becoming submerged in the various, inter-related communities that construct the advertising world during the "pre-peripheral" and "peripheral" stages of their career. Learning through immersion continues throughout the career. The nature of the learning demanded changes as each stage of the creative trajectory brings different motivations and pressures, but the processes of learning exist throughout creative career trajectories.
