Abstract:This article expands existing literature by comparing the environmental impacts and economic costs of processes in four services companies in Europe and the United States. The companies are compared both on four global-scale impacts and environmental intensity with the use of process-based life cycle assessment (LCA) and the case study method. The results reveal that all the cases had similar environmental contributions and intensity profiles, despite having large differences in organizational characteristics and line of business. Most of the environmental impact comes, despite the relatively low cost, from the office premises and related processes.
