Abstract:This paper examines the possible effect of pre-entry interventions on student retention and success in higher education. The paper is based on a review of literature. Findings suggest that pre-entry activities ought to have impact on pre-entry decision making, expectations about higher education and academic preparation and thus have a positive effect on student retention. However, the impact of pre-entry interventions on retention in higher education has been mainly ignored.
