Abstract:This study examines the relationship btw. supervisor (henceforth as: spv/s.) personality (as: prsty.) and subordinate (as: sbd/s.) reports of exposure to bullying (as: bllg.) and harassment (as: hrmss.) at work. Examined are the following research questions: a. Is there a direct relationship btw. spv/s. prsty. and reports of workplace bllg.? b. Is there an interaction btw. spv/s. prsty. and spv/s.' encountered stress as predictors of workplace bllg.? c. Will sbd/s. experiencing bllg. at their workplace rate their spv/s.' prsty. more negatively?
The sample included over 200 spv/s. and employees within 70 Norwegian restaurants. Spv/s.' low on conscientiousness, high on neuroticism and describing high levels of exposure to stress were the subject of notably more reports from sbd/s.' exposure to workplace bllg. An interaction btw. agreeableness (as: agrlss.) and stress was found showing that agrlss. is related to bllg. under low levels of stress etc.
