Abstract:The results of the analysis carried out in this paper lend support to the hypothesis that the common rejection of the theoretical restrictions in demand models is among other things due to dynamic misspecification as well as the bias towards rejection of the null hypothesis in asymptotic tests. The authors conclude that restricting the contemporaneous covariance matrix of the disturbances provides an acceptable way of enlarging the number of degrees of freedom when the number of demand categories is large as compared with the number of observations.
