Abstract: | A model for multiperiod capacity and flow allocation in computer communication networks is presented. Its main characteristics are: (1) the discreteness of capacity choices is explicity captured; (2) the capacity and routing are jointly determined for all periods; (3) the addition of new traffic generating nodes over time can be handled by the model; (4) new candidate links connecting existing nodes can be added over time; and (5) the method verifies solution quality in each case via a lower bound. Computational experiments with several networks show that the method yields verifiably good solutions to this combinatorially explosive problem. |
