Abstract: | There are many competing forces that make it difficult for a small business to survive in today's world. This is particularly true of a small telephone company coping with deregulation, equal access legislation, increasingly complex billing situations and ever-changing technology needs. It is shown how the information system component of Lufkin-Conroe Telephone Exchange Inc. (LCTX) is coping with the rapidly changing user requirements that must be addressed. A brief review of the developments in the '80s is presented. The toll processing system, the inventory system and the hardware platforms that are being used are discussed as LCTX positions itself for continued success in the 1990s. |
