Abstract: | This article focuses on a business group called the Tainanbang (best translated as the tainan clique) and examines its growth pattern and organizational structure. The group consists of firms started and expanded by a band of entrepreneurs (bang), who originated in Tainan area, hence the term Tainanbang. The author illustrates structural features common to many Chinese business groups in Taiwan, by closely analyzing the Tainanbang business group. Two noticeable characteristics are revealed. |
