Abstract: | Through its legislation France has often been a source of inspiration for the ILO; for their part, international standards have also had a strong influence on French labour law. By referring to several recent cases in which France ratified or failed to ratify international labour instruments, or refused to submit to the provisions of conventions even when they had been ratified, the author brings out the ILO's contribution to French internal law. He concludes by examining the general issue of the effectiveness of these international standards. |
