Abstract:In the last several years, the economy in the USA has been struggling to adapt to two of the most profound developments in recent financial history: (1) the continuing globalization of most principal capital markets around the world; and (2) the declining competitiveness of USA industry in the international marketplace. The convergence of both these trends is forcing companies to develop new strategies to compete for scarce funds. The monitoring and controlling role of capital markets has grown. Where there is a crisis of confidence, sources of funds can dry up immediately.
