Abstract:The gross value of Sino-UK bilateral trade was 1.099 billions of U.S. dollars in 1985. It was 2.027 billions in 1990, 84% growth. But in 1991, it decreased to 1.67 billions, in contrast to the figures in 1990, Chinese export growth was 13%, import declined by 32%. The problems were that the United Kingdom stopped carrying out the loan agreement with China, the competitive ability of British manufacture industry declined, and it lacked powerful policy to promote exporting. In 1990's, the British should do their best to enforce the competitive ability, promote the growth of bilateral trade.
