Abstract: | Perhaps none of the transportation policy decisions of the German federal government caused such passionate debate as that relating to the construction of a magnetic levitation train between Hamburg and Berlin. Two controversial points of view are presented in the two-part article: the author of the first one argues that Germany needs a new economic and technological symbol, and Transrapid can meet this demand. In contrast, Ewers, H.-j. rejects the notion of the magnetic levitation train, stating that the decision was based on outdated considerations. |
