| Abstract: | The article draws attention to certain analogies between the contemporary theory of the art and teachings of Sanskrit poetics. The comparison of the two is possible because both schools of thought are rooted in linguistics. Modern theories of literature are based on R. Jacobson's thesis of poetics being an integral part of linguistics. As to Sanskrit poetic texts, the analysis of the Dhvanyaloka by the 9th century author of Anandavardhanacharya shows that its key term of 'dhvani' was borrowed from grammarians of the epoch. |
