Abstract:The role and the position of banks in Slovenia is changing.Banks are obliged to seek their marketing position and to adjust to the new economic conditions.The buyer of banking services is becoming more and more important and banks are compelled to change their business philosophy and their customer relations.This challenge has been caused by the new developments in banking and by competition. Competitors to Slovene banks are not just new banks but also the non-banking financial organisations such as insurance companies, financial associations, investment funds, etc. This is why banks are expected to devote more attention to marketing, market analysis and to the development of strategic planning.It simply means that they should pursue marketing activities while making some projection into the future.In his article the author tries to shed light on certain basic concepts of marketing, describes the role of strategic planning in banks and the overall organisation of marketing in banks.
