Abstract:When corporate leaders decide to do something about changing competitive conditions, too often all they do is reach for the latest fad: excellence, total quality management (TQM), benchmarking, just-in-time, zero-based budgeting, the learning organization, decentralization, rightsizing. But none of these is designed to help a business organization manage the more radical forces that are dramatically reshaping the competitive capabilities of entire industries, not just individual companies.
