Abstract:Seldom companies had such an opportunity to tear out wasteful work methods and pull down organizational structures and build radically new designs that improve efficiency without burning out employees. Yet only 30 percent of reengineering efforts succeed, because they fail to go beyond mere job reductions and automation into the new world of fundamentally rethinking how people work. Even then, many firms devote too little effort to training, adjusting job descriptions and altering compensation packages. But some companies have made it work by making HR an integral partner in the reengineering process.
