| Abstract: | From the earliest days of the modern corporate form, two principles have been central in defining the specific organization structure: functionalization of work into specialized units of activities, and hierarchical layers as the managerial structure for coordinating activities of the units. Up until the last 10 years or so, these two principles have been used to build very large enterprises. Successful companies always grew in their size. |
