Abstract: | In a wide-ranging examination of the role of capital goods' suppliers in stimulating and spreading technical innovation during the nineteenth century , MacLeod focuses attention upon the much neglected mechanical engineering industry. This comment questions some of MacLeod's assumptions about relationships within textile engineering , and between engineers and their customers, and consequently raises doubts about some of the conclusions concerning the flow of technological information. |
