Abstract:Eye movement and pupillary response measures (in addition to search time and accuracy) were collected as indices of visual workload during two experiments designed to evaluate the addition of colour coding to symbolic tactical display. In conclusion, the studies show the efficacy of colour coding for improving information displays. They also demonstrate the importance of ocular measures, including pupil diameter change as well as eye movements , to understand how display variables affect visual search.
