| Abstract: | Material handling equipment selection is a complex, tedious task, and there is usually more than one good answer for a particular situation. This paper describes a knowledge-based approach for addressing the major factors that influence equipment selection. The research involves the compilation of a knowledge base from review and modification of traditional checklists and published literature on equipment selection, and the development of a prototype expert system for material handling equipment selection. |
