| Abstract: | Sun Microsystems recently increased their productivity by decreasing the level of automation at one of their manufacturing sites. The intent was not to return to the pre-Ford era. The pilot's purpose was to start from ground zero and add only those manufacturing steps that added value to the product, while avoiding those steps that detracted from the quality or the ergonomics of the process. |
